What is a PPG?
A patient participation group (PPG) is a volunteer group of registered patients who work alongside practice staff to provide a patient perspective on services and care.
PPGs are open to all patients from diverse backgrounds, communities, ages, genders, ethnicities, and abilities, including paid and unpaid caregivers.
Who is part of a PPG?
Typically, a PPG consists of volunteer patients, the practice manager, and one or more GPs/staff from the practice.
Purpose of a PPG
The main objectives of a PPG are:
- Representing the patient voice in decision-making processes
- Ensuring all communities registered with the practice are represented
- Providing feedback on patient experience to help improve services
- Exploring patient concerns, complaints, and survey results to contribute to action plans
- Designing patient newsletters to share practice updates
- Supporting health awareness campaigns and patient education initiatives
- Engaging with local communities to reflect the diverse practice population
